Science Lab Stage 3 Material World Program
Before Christ, the Ancient Greeks believed there were four elements in the world: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. In Term 3, we'll be conducting investigations to help us understand: What is matter? What are the properties of different materials? How can heat change those properties? In our sessions, we'll observe ice cubes melting and candle flames burning; we'll build a simple thermometer; we'll learn about the sublimation of dry ice and explain how a steam engine works.
Our understanding of the material world is one of the pillars on which the industrial revolution was built. In Term 4, we'll be challenged to use materials to solve a building problem. Working in small teams, there'll be the opportunity to design and produce solutions. Throughout, there'll be a variety of hands-on activities carefully supervised by our resident Science Lab boffin.
